Welcome to our site
Begun in 2001, the Rhode Island Minority Police Association's "Law
Enforcement, Education and Technology Computer Camp" is provided as a means of giving
added exposure to computer technology, information regarding the higher
education process, and to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement
officers and youth. It places a high, strong emphasis on assisting the youth of our community to obtain the skills needed to succeed
in their goals.
The program has three main components, each of which is essential to the
empowerment of our youthful community, and their relationships with those who
serve as our community's guardians:
 |
LAW ENFORCEMENT:
It is needful that the members of both the law enforcement community
and the youth of the general community-at-large become aware of each
others strengths and weaknesses, learning to maximize upon the one,
and eliminate the other, so that a more positive relationship can
grow and exist. Our youth must understand that not all police are
"out to get them"; law enforcement must realize that not every child
of color wearing "baggy jeans" is a potential criminal perpetrator.
|
 |
EDUCATION:
It is only through the empowerment obtained through the educational
system that our youth may eventually succeed in the life's goals.
Without the benefit of an education, no true future exists for those
in the minority community. What you know will bring greater riches
than how well you play in team sports. |
 |
TECHNOLOGY: The
world, it's finance, it's politics, and it's ultimate destiny are
controlled through the might of technology. And our children must
grasp the tentacles of this hydra, and understand it's ways, in order
to succeed. |
